International Festival of the Cajon Peruano 2014

The International Festival of the Cajon Peruano kicks off in Lima, Peru next month and if you are anywhere near by, you need to check it out.

Many of us know the cajon is a Peruvian instrument and also the declared national instrument of Peru. The International Festival of the Cajon Peruano is Peru’s way of celebrating their rich cultural heritage of the cajon and Afro Peruvian traditions.

Last year one of the big features was a mass gathering of cajon players in Lima’s main square that broke the world record for the largest number of cajon players on the planet at one time.

This years festival looks to be a great one too with performances, conferences, films, music clinics and master classes from some of the top names in cajon. The festival will feature Afro Peruvian traditions as well as flamenco, Brazilian, jazz, and fusion.

Performers include: Rafael Santa Cruz, Sonny Troupe Quartet, Leslie Patten, and many more as well as a performance from the Peruvian cajon masters.
